E-mail enabling a Document Library in SharePoint

If you want to store e-mail messages for archival purposes, records management or other storage scenarios, SharePoint makes this as simple as E-mail enabling a Document Library!

In order to configure a Document Library to accept e-mail messages, you have to configure this in Central Administration under System Settings-->E-Mail and Text Messages (SMS)-->Configure incoming e-mail settings.  You also have to configure the SMTP Service on the server.  If these settings have not been configured, you will not even have the option to configure "Incoming e-mail settings" for your Document Library.

You can read more about how to configure incoming e-mail for SharePoint here:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262947%28v=office.15%29.aspx

Though this article is a bit old and outdated, the same basic process applies to configuring e-mail settings in SharePoint 2013: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/enable-and-configure-e-mail-support-for-a-list-or-library-HA010082307.aspx
